🎯ইংরেজি শব্দের মধ্যে বর্ণের অবস্থান ও অন্য বর্ণের সাথে বিন্যাসের ওপর ভিত্তি করে অনেক বর্ণের উচ্চারণ হয় না। ইংরেজিতে প্রায় ৬০ ভাগ শব্দের মধ্যে অনুচ্চারিত বর্ণ রয়েছে। তাই ইংরেজি শব্দের শুদ্ধ উচ্চারণের জন্য অনুচ্চারিত বর্ণ সম্পর্কে ধারণা থাকা জরুরি।

ইংরেজি শব্দের কোন অবস্থানে কোন বর্ণের উচ্চারণ হবে না – এ ধরনের কিছু নিয়মকানুন এখানে দেওয়া হলো। এছাড়া নিয়মের বাইরেও ব্যতিক্রমধর্মী কিছু শব্দ আছে যেখানে এক বা একাধিক বর্ণ অনুচ্চারিত থাকে।

Silent B

Rule 1: The letter B is usually not pronounced after M at the end of a word.
কোনো শব্দের শেষ বর্ণ B এবং তার আগের বর্ণ যদি M হয় তাহলে শেষ বর্ণ B উচ্চারিত হয় না।

Silent C
Rule 1: The letter C is usually not pronounced in the combination of SC.
কোনো শব্দে যদি পাশাপাশি SC থাকে তাহলে C-এর উচ্চারণ হয় না।

Silent D
The letter D is silent when it appears before the letters N and G.

Silent E
Rule 1: If the letter E comes at the ends of words, it is generally not pronounced.
শব্দের শেষ বর্ণ E এর উচ্চারণ হয় না।

Rule 2: If E occurs before the letter D in the second and third form of the verbs, E may sometimes not to be pronounced.

Silent G

The G letter is not pronounced when it comes before N in a word.
কোনো শব্দে যদি G-এর পরে N থাকে তখন G-এর উচ্চারণ হয় না।

Silent K
Rule: The letter K is always silent when it precedes the letter N in a word.

কোনো শব্দে L-এর পূর্বে S থাকলে Lটির উচ্চারণ উহ্য থাকে।

Silent T
Rule: The letter T is not pronounced in the following common English words:
নিম্নলিখিত শব্দগুলোতে T-র উচ্চারণ হয় না।

castle, christmas, fasten, listen, often, beret, Chevrolet, whistle, thistle, bustle, hasten, soften, rapport, gourmet, ballet.
Silent U
Rule: The letter U is not pronounced when it comes after G and before a vowel in a word.
যদি কোনো শব্দের মধ্যে U-এর পূর্বে G এবং পরে স্বরবর্ণ থাকে তবে সেই U-র উচ্চারণ হয় না।

Silent W
Rule 1: The letter W is not pronounced at the beginning of a word when it is before the letter R.
যদি কোনো শব্দের প্রথম বর্ণ W এবং দ্বিতীয় বর্ণ R হয় তবে প্রথম বর্ণ W উচ্চারণ হয় না।
